In partnership with Warren Publishing, Page 158 Books presents a roundtable discussion on mental health with authors Ruth Poniarski, Hope Andersen, and Allie Coker. Together, these women will discuss their recent publications Journey of the Self: Memoir of an Artist (Poniarski), How To Remodel A Life (Andersen), and The Last Resort (Coker) which engage with mental health through various different perspectives. This is a digital author event that will be held on our Crowdcast channel. You can sign up and attend the event here.
In 2020, Poniarski?s JOURNEY OF THE SELF: MEMOIR OF AN ARTIST received the prestigious Kirkus Award, an award reserved for books of remarkable merit awarded to only 10% of the books reviewed globally. Kirkus heralds Journey of the Self as ?an engrossing and often beautiful portrait of living with mental illness.? For years, Poniarski struggled to cope with her new reality as she undertook a rigorous architectural program, sought out new friends (and the perfect mate), and battled through the depths of mental illness. Her journey led her in all directions as she sought comfort, solace, stability, and love.
HOW TO REMODEL A LIFE by Hope Andersen provides valuable guidance for anyone struggling with alcoholism and bipolar disorder. Told from the viewpoint of a home remodel, a bring light is shone within the fresh beginning of a clean slate. Through her vulnerability and by passing on the lessons she?s learned, Anderson exudes the true meaning of her name: Hope. In sharing her story of how she successfully remodeled her life, despite years of turmoil, countless readers have access to more joy and the possibility of remodeling their lives, too.
Allie Coker?s THE LAST RESORT takes an eye-opening peek inside the most vulnerable sides of humanity, inspiring questions on the unquantifiability of sanity and reality. Set in a sanitarium for residents who feel imprisoned in their own minds, patients and staff find themselves at the center of a complex system that forces them to examine who they are from every angle. The Last Resort reveals that there are multiple dimensions to a person, a situation, an institution? even if our rigid definitions confine us to believe the contrary.
