Government Affairs Committee
Join the Government Affairs Committee for their monthly update on May 1. Our guest will be Brendie Vega, Assistant Director of Community Development with the Town of Wake Forest. She will present current and future long-range planning initiatives that we should all care about.
The vision of the Town’s future growth and its infrastructure relies on the input that is received. While we cannot control the market, we can decide how we want the future Wake Forest to look and feel. Currently underway is the update to the Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP), which helps the Town decide what road projects to prioritize and what improvements need to be made to the transportation network (bike, walk, ride, drive). There will be a public involvement meeting on May 16th at the Renaissance Center to present some of the recommendations and gather final comments before the plan is finalized and presented to the Board of Commissioners for adoption. The CTP will be finalized in August and it will go before the Board of Commissioners in September.
The Community Plan, also referred to as a Comprehensive Plan and Future Land Use map, is scheduled to be updated starting in Spring 2019 with a projected adoption date of Fall 2020. The Community Plan update will take into account the changes Wake Forest has seen over the last 10 years since the Plan was adopted in 2009. The plan will help guide growth and development and target areas for commercial and non-residential development. There will be many opportunities to get involved with the planning efforts. Planning staff and their consultants will seek input from different stakeholders.
If time permits, the Interactive Development Map will be showcased, where everyone can see what development is being proposed for Wake Forest and how citizens and business owners can use the map.
The Government Affairs Committee's monthly updates in 2019 are featuring elected officials and staff from local, county, and state government. This is your opportunity to hear from, and ask questions of the people who represent you and your business. We hope you'll join us! A light breakfast will be provided. Please register so we know how much coffee to brew.
