Issues & Answers provides an opportunity to hear from industry experts on how the changing landscape of law, finance, taxes, and insurance is affecting business today. Panelists will share an update from their field of expertise and take questions.Participants can interact in both in the large group setting or individually following the presentations.
May 10 Agenda:
Law: The status of employment-related legislation in North Carolina and the nation, and a focus on the current state of HB2 and other diversity issues in the workplace.
Finance: A market update and a discussion regarding the value of employee financial education, both to employees and employers.
Taxes: Updates to the new sales tax laws (some new guidance has been released) and Affordable Care Act taxes that will be phasing in over the next few years, without any changes to the healthcare laws.
Insurance: The increase in automobile insurance rates we've been seeing over the last six months.
Panelists:
Rob Mitchell, CPA, CVA is a partner and the firm manager at Mitchell & Nemitz, PA in Wake Forest. His concentration of services includes business valuation services, tax preparation and planning, QuickBooks consulting, and audits of for-profit and not-for-profit companies. Rob lives in the Wake Forest and is currently serving on the board of directors of The Koinonia Foundation, Wake Forest 4th of July, Inc., and the Wake Forest Chamber Foundation for Common Progress.
Leslie Lasher is a business and litigation attorney, focusing in employment law and compliance. She has worked with businesses and public entities of all size, and across multiple industries. She advises on regulatory compliance issues, helps employers and executives through transitions and sticky employment situations, and defends employers in litigation brought by their employees. She is a graduate of Elon University and its School of Law. She lives in Wake Forest and practices law with the Forrest Firm, P.C.
Seth Asbill joined Edward Jones as a financial advisor in 2014, and has since assumed leadership of one of four branch offices in Wake Forest. He’s a member of the board of directors for the Wake Forest Chamber of Commerce, and serves on the Chamber Membership Committee. He also serves on local boards for Rotary and The Boy Scouts of America.
Laura Jazab has more than 13 years of insurance industry experience, and specializes in commercial lines with a focus on professionals who need E&O insurance. She joined the Hartsfield & Nash Agency in 2006 and holds the designations of Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) and Certified Insurance Service Representative (CISR). Ms. Jazab is a past president of the Wakefield Rotary Club and serves on several committees through the Wake Forest Chamber of Commerce. She also volunteers at the YMCA, Wake Forest Boys & Girls Club and many other organizations focused on local youth initiatives.
